A special, new season green with surprising body and a captivating taste. A classic top quality gun powder tea marked by the Osprey, a high soaring bird of prey (the pinnacle). This tea has good green tea taste that is slightly vegetative refreshing and clean with an infusion that tends dark green. The green leaf is plucked during April at the height of early season quality. This tea comes from a tea estate west of Hangzhou in the hill country of Zhejiang province.

The flavor of Genmaicha is light, with mild nutty overtones. Our organic Genmaicha is a steamed Sencha blended with roasted rice kernels making the tea look as though it has been mixed with popcorn. The tea should be brewed at a slightly higher temperature than most green teas in order to bring out this wonderfully mild flavor. Genmaicha is an excellent palate cleanser and is perfect for drinking with Asian-themed meals. This quality has made it one of the most popular teas in Japan. Although the version we offer here is actually grown in China, it is produced to exacting Japanese standards. As well it is grown organically; no pesticides or chemical fertilizers were used in its production.

Hot Tea: This tea is best enjoyed by pouring 190F/90C water over the leaves (1-1 1/5 tsp per cup) for 3 minutes (longer=stronger).
